IMC DISCUSSES WITH JOURNALISM STUDENTS CODE OF ETHICS AND OTHER ACTS REGULATING AUDIO-VISUAL MEDIA SERVICE PROVIDERS

Deputy Chair of the Independent Media Commission (IMC), Mrs. Violeta Hyseni Kelmendi, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Luan Latifi, and the Head of the Monitoring and Analysis Division, Mr. Mirand Tafarshiku presented to a group of students of AAB University the legal regulations of the IMC, which regulates the Audio-Visual Media Services in Kosovo, with special emphasis on the Code of Ethics.

Mrs. Hyseni-Kelmendi said that the regulation of audio-visual media in Kosovo is in line with international standards of broadcasting and human rights, protecting the public interest and promoting democracy, rule of law, freedom of expression, and media pluralism.

“It is very important for you as students and future journalists to know the laws and regulations governing the media, to understand the rules of ethics such as impartiality and accuracy of the news, respect for individual rights including the right to privacy, non-broadcasting of materials that promote or incite criminal activities, non-incitement of hate speech, respect for the right to privacy of children and juveniles, etc. ", said the Vice President of the IMC.

While the Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Luan Latifi, and the Head of the Monitoring and Analysis Division, Mr. Mirand Tafarshiku provided clarifications to students on their questions regarding media plagiarism, protection of children and minors, measures taken by the IMC when audio-visual media violate the code of ethics and other regulations of the institution, either based on complaints from parties or ex-officio monitoring. During the presentation, Mr. Latifi also spoke about the importance of Media Education and the role of the regulator in the development of this platform.

Senior IMC officials expressed the institution's readiness for continued cooperation with journalism students of all universities in Kosovo to promote ethical standards of journalism, increase the quality of media reporting, and protect the public interest.

This presentation of the IMC bylaws before the third year students of journalism of AAB University was realized at the invitation of the professor of the course "Journalism Online", Mrs. Ilire Zajmi Rugova.
