The Independent Media Commission (IMC) on September 19, 2019, under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the IMC, Mr. Muja FERATI, held its tenth regular meeting for 2019.

The Committee first approved the agenda of the meeting and then the minutes from the last meeting.

The Independent Media Commission (IMC), based on the requests received as well as the ongoing interests of the candidates for licenses for the provision of audio media services, has made an assessment on the need and possibility of announcing free frequencies in some municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo.

It was assessed whether there is a lack of audio media services at the local and regional level, including the lack of audio media services in minority languages, the lack of media pluralism or the need for further development of this pluralism. This assessment was made based on the IMC Law, respectively Article 9 of this law, which defines the Broadcasting Policy in the Republic of Kosovo.

The IMC has also confirmed the technical possibilities for free frequencies, which are in accordance with the frequency plan of the Republic of Kosovo and which can compete for the award to the candidates who best meet the competitive criteria. Therefore, the Commission decided to announce a public competition for the issuance of new licenses for radio broadcasting in five (5) municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo: Pristina, Peja, Gjakova, Istog and Elez Han.

The Commission also discussed the work being done on the preparations for the media monitoring process during the election campaign.
