PUBLIC CLARIFICATION REGARDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE RULES IN TERMS OF SPONSORSHIP AND PLACEMENT OF PRODUCTS IN NEWSCASTS AND PROGRAMS ON CURRENT AFFAIRS

25 September 2019

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) is obliged to conduct continuous media monitoring to assess their compliance with the IMC Law and IMC bylaws, in order to ensure that we have compliance with the legislation in power.

In the framework of these monitoring, it was noticed that some televisions, in certain shows, did not comply with the obligations set out in the IMC Law and the IMC-2017/07 Regulation on Audiovisual Commercial Communications, regarding the sponsorship and placement of products on shows for current affairs.

The IMC has identified violations of the rules regarding sponsorship and placement of products in shows related to current issues and has forwarded several announcements to the media, through which it is required the compliance with IMC-2017/07 Regulation and the IMC Law.

The IMC clarifies to the public opinion and stakeholders that it is not a question of banning all forms of advertising, but only in some shows where issues related to current affairs in the public interest are addressed.

The IMC remains at the disposal of the public and stakeholders at all times to provide clarifications regarding the implementation of legal requirements regarding the legislation governing the field of media.
