ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE MEETING OF THE INDEPENDENT MEDIA COMMISSION

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) held its first regular meeting for 2020 on 31 January 2020, chaired by the IMC Chairman, Mr. Muja FERATI.

The Commission initially approved the agenda of the meeting and then the minutes from the last meeting.

In the course of the meeting, the IMC Commission examined several applications in licensing cases. These applicationswere related to recommendations for termination of the distribution operator's license and the audiovisual media service provider. The Commission examined the licensing cases listed below:

Orange Net - Recommendation for termination of the distribution operator’s license (voluntary renunciation of the license);

NTP Ardi - Recommendation for termination of the distribution operator’s license (voluntary renunciation of the license);

Mediakos Communications (formerly Elektra) - Recommendation for termination of the distribution operator’s license  (voluntary renunciation of the license); and

Star TV - Recommendation for termination of the license of the audiovisual media service provider (voluntary renunciation of the license).

The Commission has also reviewed the Quarterly Report October - December 2019 on the IMC performance. After the examination, the Commission approved the report to be forwarded to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, according to the procedure based on the legal obligation arising from Article 15 of Law No. 04/L-44 on the Independent Media Commission.

The Commission also examined the Monitoring Report on the Implementation of the Regulation on the Protection of Children and Minors in Audiovisual Media Services. After the examination, the Commission approved the report for publication.

In this meeting, the Commission also discussed the amendment of the IMC bylaws. After the discussion, the Commission pursuant to Article 8 paragraph 2 of Law No. 04/L-44 on the IMC, decided to put on the public discussion the Regulation on Distribution of Audio and Audiovisual Media Service Providers. The public discussion period is from 3 February 2020 to 18 March 2020.
