A MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION IS SIGNED BETWEEN THE INDEPENDENT MEDIA COMMISSION AND THE DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PRISHTINA

08 January 2020

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the University of Prishtina (UP). The Memorandum was signed between the Chairman of the Independent Media Commission (IMC), Mr Muja FERATI and the Rector of the University of Prishtina Mr Marjan DEMA.

On this occasion, representatives of the two institutions expressed their satisfaction that this memorandum was reached and pledged to achieve the goals and objectives of it. Such a memorandum has come as a necessity for journalism students to look more closely on how the legal regulation of electronic media functions in practice in the Republic of Kosovo.

The Memorandum aims at further strengthening the cooperation between the IMC and the UP, respectively the Department of Journalism.

This memorandum sets out the modalities and modes of cooperation between the Independent Media Commission and the Department of Journalism at the University of Prishtina, respectively provides opportunities for students and the Department of Journalism to familiarize themselves with the normative acts in force containing regulation of audio-visual media service providers, including: Law on IMC and sub-legal acts on IMC, and to familiarize themselves with IMC licensing procedures, as well as the entire media spectrum of IMC licensees.

This cooperation will enable the provision of internships and professional development for students who, thanks to a more developed academic background, will be better prepared for the job market. Students who complete the internship will create opportunities for themselves to explore different career areas that they can pursue after completing their studies. This internship will enable the organizers to evaluate students for later employment by making recommendations based on their internship results.

In coordination with the Department of Journalism, the IMC will provide internship opportunities for students of the Department of Journalism, enabling the utilization of the technical capacities and office space for academic research of students and staff of the Department of Journalism, where IMC officials will provide lectures for students of the Department of Journalism. The lectures will be of extra-curricular nature and will be organized as part of the department's activities outside the teaching process. Work will also be done to provide study visits to students within the IMC workplaces, to familiarize them with the work, procedures and activities of the IMC.

The most important component will be cooperation in carrying out activities related to media education, including the organization of debates, lectures, training sessions and other activities related to the relevant field.
