The Independent Media Commission participated in the regional meeting between media regulators regarding the harmonization of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), a meeting which was organized by the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA), from 20 to 23 February 2022, in Albania.
Participants in the meeting were media regulators from Kosovo (Independent Media Commission), Albania (Audiovisual Media Authority), Montenegro (Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services), Northern Macedonia (Agency for Electronic Communications).
In this working meeting, the parties discussed the obligations arising from the new AVMSD Directive 2018/1808, respectively the harmonization of the media legislation of the participating countries with this directive and the challenges that regulators will face during this process. Other topics of current importance were also discussed, such as regional coordination regarding frequency plans, respectively coordination in the release of the 700 MHz frequency band known as DD2.
In addition to these developments, during this organization the Independent Media Commission and the Audiovisual Media Authority have signed a joint statement on inter-institutional cooperation in which they set the objectives of this cooperation. The parties in the meeting agreed to hold regional meetings periodically and agreed to continue cooperation, in order to achieve common goals.
