Announcement from the meeting of the Independent Media Commission

18 March 2022

The Independent Media Commission (IMC), on March 15, 2022, under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the IMC, Mr. Xhevat Latifi, held its fifth regular meeting.

Following the approval of the agenda and minutes from the last meeting, the Commission has considered the issue of frequency plan in the broadcast band.

Considering the fact that the management of frequency resources is a sovereign and undeniable right of each country, in recognition of the principle of the right of equal access to the frequency spectrum during the coordination process by different states (especially those border with each other), taking into account the fact that under the Geneva 06 agreement, Kosovo is not allocated national frequencies that cover the entire territory of Kosovo (those that are divided have local extent, cover parts of the territory of Kosovo, and how to such are on behalf of Serbia which has negotiated such an arrangement), the Commission considered it necessary and necessary to review the frequency plan for digital broadcasting and enter into coordination processes with all neighboring countries.

The Commission decided that channels 35, 37, 39, 47 and 48 in the UHF band 470-694 will be added to the Digital Frequency Plan (21, 31, 44 and 46) at the national level.

It was also decided to start the process of coordination with neighboring countries in order to eliminate technical obstacles in the use of transmission frequencies according to the principle of equal access to the frequency spectrum.
