The Independent Media Commission (IMC) hosted a team of experts within the ODIHR, from the Project Support Team for Electoral Reforms in the Western Balkans.

The topic of discussion was the implementation of the recommendations of the EU Election Observation Mission Report, published in February 2022, respectively the current situation with the implementation of the recommendations from that report.

The ODIHR project team for the Support of Electoral Reforms in the Western Balkans announced that they are holding several meetings with the institutions included in the report, in order to be informed by the relevant actors to what stage the work has been achieved in addressing the recommendations of the report and what are the challenges of the institutions in this direction, in order to support the parties involved in the electoral processes in Kosovo.

During the meeting, all the recommendations of the report related to the IMC were discussed, as well as the works that have been carried out and those that are in the process of addressing the recommendations of the said report regarding the improvement of the legal framework, respectively the amendment of the Law on the IMC by the Government in cooperation with the IMCas well as the amendment of the regulations (secondary legislation) by the IMC.

The representatives of the IMC informed the ODIHR experts about the activities of the IMC in monitoring the media during the elections, the legal procedures and deadlines in dealing with legal violations and complaints of the parties, the problems encountered, the various violations they have committed from the media. At the end, a summary of the legal steps followed by the IMC for cases of violations during the elections, respectively the decisions against those media that have committed violations of the legal framework that regulates the part of the media during the elections, was presented. And as the conclusion of the meeting was that all the challenges and recommendations identified in the report have been addressed by the IMC and some of them that have not yet been fully implemented are in the process.
