The Independent Media Commission (IMC) and the Competition Authority of the Republic of Kosovo (AKRK) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation today.

The memorandum was signed by Mr. Jeton Mehmeti-Chairman of IMC and Mrs. Neime Binaku Isufi-Chairman of AKRK.

On this occasion, the representatives of both institutions expressed their commitment to deepen the inter-institutional cooperation, in order to support and exchange professional experiences with the institutions, according to mutual needs, in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the memorandum. The primary purpose of this Memorandum is to strengthen cooperation between the parties in the function of promoting and developing free market competition, with a focus on the issue of media ownership.

The Memorandum aims to define the modalities, instruments and ways of cooperation between the signatory parties, in order to develop activities in the respective fields that the signatory parties regulate. Coordination of inter-institutional activities and joint engagements with human and technical resources, in cases where the mandates and activities of the parties are related in implementation of the relevant legal provisions. The Memorandum aims to facilitate the exchange of necessary official information, which the receiving parties treat at the level of confidentiality according to legal obligations, based on the respective competition and media laws.

Also, the parties will raise the level of mutual engagement in the processes of drafting bylaws and legal acts in the respective fields, as well as in avoiding possible cases of legal collision in the areas of action that the authorities regulate.
