The Independent Media Commission (IMC) on April 15, 2024, under the leadership of the Chairman of the IMC Mr. Jeton Mehmeti, has held the fourth regular meeting for this year. In this meeting, the Commission addressed several agenda items such as: a request to change the location of the radio broadcast and some requests of the radio stations to expand the coverage, the recommendations of the performance audit report as well as the review of the quarterly work report.

At first, the Commission discussed the request to change the broadcast location of Radio Dodona. The committee after the review decided that due to the special importance in increasing the efficiency and improving the audio media services, to approve the request of Radio Dodona for the change of the broadcast location.

Following the meeting, the Commission held a detailed discussion on the recommendations of the performance audit report: Licensing management in the Independent Media Commission. In this context, the importance of this audit was emphasized in order to improve the work of the IMC in the management of the licensing process. Also the implementation of the recommendations from the report, which are addressed to the IMC.

Based on the Working Regulations of the IMC, the Commission has reviewed the terms of reference for the four subcommittees formed in the third meeting:

• Subcommittee on copyright;

• Subcommittee for frequencies and digitization;

• The subcommittee for the supervision of the process of collecting debts of licensees towards the IMC; AND

• The subcommittee for the supervision of the implementation process of IMC-2023/03 Regulation on the ownership and concentration of IMC licensees.

The purpose of forming these subcommittees is a step that will help in the organization and efficient functioning of the Commission and in improving its performance.

At the same time, the quarterly work report of the IMC was approved, a document that reflects the efforts and achievements of the Commission during the last period.

At the end of the meeting, the Commission discussed the requests of some radio stations to expand coverage. Taking into account that the IMC gives special importance to the development of the broadcasting infrastructure and the provision of a wider range of services for the public, at the same time the goal remains towards the advancement of policies and practices in the field of media, but reflecting the institution's commitment to promote a healthy media environment, compliant with licensing terms and conditions. So every licensed radio, in addition to other obligations, must adhere to the criteria of the license granted by the IMC in function of the service of that community/locality of citizens where a radio broadcasts and for which location it has applied and won the radio frequency competition.
