The Independent Media Commission (IMC) received today the Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Mr. Michael Davenport. The Ambassador was received by the Chairman of the NKM, Mr. Jeton Mehmeti.

In his introductory speech, the President Mr. Mehmeti said that he is happy with the high level of bilateral cooperation and for the continuous support that the OSCE has offered to the IMC, in the face of various challenges. The President Mr. Mehmeti informed the Ambassador Mr. Davenport about the current activities of the IMC, in fulfillment of the constitutional and legal obligations, with special emphasis on the promotion of media pluralism, raising the transparency of media ownership, pushing forward the annual objectives and advancing of the legal framework by harmonizing it with the spirit of EU legislation. In this regard, it was discussed regarding the process of amending the Law on the IMC in order to harmonize it with the new AVMS Directive and the new legal obligations that the said draft law brings to the IMC.

Ambassador Mr. Davenport expressed his thanks for the reception and added that this meeting also reflects an ongoing commitment of the OSCE to continue to advance this cooperation. Appreciating the importance of the media regulator, Mr. Davenport has encouraged the IMC to continue its work in defense of media freedom, offering continued support from the OSCE, in the implementation of the highest standards in the field of regulation of audio-visual media services, to ensure a free and independent media environment in Kosovo, as a main element for the development of democracy.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairman Mr. Mehmeti highly appreciated the visit and support of the head of the OSCE Mission, in order to strengthen the freedom of the media in Kosovo and that this cooperation between the two institutions is essential to ensure a developed pluralism and free in the country.
