IMC hosted a delegation from the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services of North Macedonia

Today, the Independent Media Commission hosted a delegation from the Audio and Audiovisual Media Services Agency (ASHMA) in a bilateral meeting.

The host of the meeting was the President of the IMC, Mr. Jeton Mehmeti, member of the IMC Mr. Besnik Berisha, where together with the team of IMC officials, the members of the delegation of ASHMA, led by the Director of ASHMA Mr. Zoran Trajčevski and the Deputy Chairman of the Council of ASHMA Mr. Selver Ajdini, are expected. The ASHMA delegation, led by the Director of the Agency, was warmly received by the President and senior representatives of the IMC, who emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in the media field.

In the meeting, several issues were discussed, the duke emphasized the practical experiences and activities related to the harmonization of the domestic regulation for media with the European one and the implementation of the obligations arising from the revised Directive for audiovisual media services. In this direction, the delegation from ASHMA shared their experiences in the process of harmonizing local legislation with the AVMS Directive.

Special attention was paid to experiences in terms of how to monitor media content during election processes, respectively new challenges that are being presented in step with technological development and that regulators are facing.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed common challenges facing the media in both countries, including the increasing influence of disinformation and the need for public media education. IMC representatives presented the policies and measures taken to protect media pluralism and freedom of expression, sharing concrete examples from their daily practices. 

At the end of the visit, both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved and commitment to continue cooperation in the future. It was emphasized that the exchange of experiences and best practices will help improve the quality of the media in both countries and will contribute to the promotion of a more transparent and responsible media environment. This meeting marked an important step towards a closer and more effective cooperation between the media regulatory institutions of both countries.
