Jeton Mehmeti, Chairman of the Independent Media Commission, has been elected Vice-President of the Network of Regulators of the Mediterranean States (MNRA), at the 23rd Plenary Assembly held in Yerevan, Armenia. This network, which consists of 27 members, aims to exchange knowledge and experiences between member states on issues related to media regulation. According to the rules of this network, Kosovo will be the host of the Plenary Assembly in 2025, in which case it automatically takes the Presidency of the MNRA.
In his speech, President Mehmeti thanked the member states for their trust. "The year 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Independent Media Commission. It will be an honor for us, in addition to the organization of the Plenary Assembly, to show you the development of the IMC by an entity administered by UNMIK named the Temporary Media Commissioner to an independent media regulator," he said.
The main topic in the works of the assembly in Yerevan are the principles of Unesco on the administration of digital platforms as well as the use of Artificial Intelligence in achieving the objectives of sustainable development of the United Nations. In addition to Mayor Mehmeti, Herolindë Zagragja Goçi and Bashkim Reçica are also participating from the IMC.
MNRA was founded in 1997 on the initiative of France and Spain. Among the other member states are Greece, Cyprus, Israel, Malta, Morocco, Turkey, Albania and other states of the region.
